1. Our Commitment

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all our members, especially those who may be vulnerable. We take safeguarding seriously and ensure that appropriate steps are in place to prevent harm and respond to any concerns.

2. Who This Policy Covers

This policy applies to:

  • The named lead support person working on behalf of Airedale and Bradford Out on a Limb
  • All members who attend or engage with our support services and group activities 3. How Support is DeliveredAt present:
  • All direct support is provided by Lindsey Pentith, who holds a valid enhanced DBS check
  • Group support is provided in public places, such as pubs, restaurants, cafes and community venues
  • Home visits may occasionally be carried out by Lindsey Pentith only, under the following guidelines:They are pre-arranged and agreed with the memberThe visit’s time, date, and purpose are recordedThe visit is carried out respectfully and professionallyAny risks or concerns are monitored, and visits can be paused or cancelled if neededWe do not currently offer 1:1 support from any other individuals or volunteers.

4. Remote Support (Email, Messaging, and Telephone)

We may also offer support through email, text, phone calls, or messaging apps. This includes check-ins, updates, or general support. Remote support may be provided by Lindsey Pentith or other trusted team members who are not delivering in-person services.

To ensure safeguarding standards are maintained:

  • All communication is respectful, clear, and appropriate
  • Contact is made only during agreed hours and not late at night or excessively
  • Personal information is stored safely and only shared with permission (unless there is a safeguarding concern)
  • Any worries or concerns raised via remote contact will be logged and responded to following the same safeguarding procedures
  • Volunteers or team members providing remote support will be briefed on confidentiality, professional boundaries, and how to escalate concerns5. Safeguarding Measures
  • We always prioritise the safety and wellbeing of members
  • We respect confidentiality, but will share information if someone is at risk of harm
  • Everyone is expected to behave in a respectful and inclusive way
  • Members are supported to express concerns or raise complaints without fear of judgement6. If a Concern ArisesIf someone discloses harm or there are concerns:
  • Listen calmly, avoid judgment, and don’t promise to keep things secret
  • Reassure the person that they’ve done the right thing by speaking up
  • Record the concern as soon as possible (who, what, when, where)
  • Contact:Adult Social Care or local safeguarding team
    Or emergency services (999) if someone is at immediate risk

7. Home Visit Record Keeping

A short written record is kept for each home visit including:

 • Date and time
• Member name
• Purpose of visit

• Any concerns or observations
These are stored securely and only accessed by the support lead.

8. Future Safeguarding Plans

As the group grows:

  • Any additional staff or volunteers delivering 1:1 support will be DBS checked
  • Basic safeguarding awareness training will be introduced
  • This policy will be reviewed and updated annually

We are so grateful for your support as a volunteer. This agreement outlines what you can expect from us and what we ask from you. It’s not a legal contract, just a shared understanding.
